The tournament was divided into a preliminary round and a final round. The eight participating teams first play a simple round-robin tournament . The first four played for the title at Poule Haute . In Poule Basse the last four should play against relegation, due to the disqualification of Luxembourg in 1915 only three teams played there. The total of the team points (2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a defeat), then the direct comparison and then the number of board points (3 points for a win, 2 points for a Draw, 1 point for a loss, 0 points for a loss without a fight). For the final placement, both the points from the preliminary round and the points from the final round were taken into account.

The competitions were held on September 25, October 9 and 23, November 20, December 11, 2016, January 15, February 5, March 5 and 19 and April 2, 2017. The last round was central in Ellingen , the others decentrally at the participating clubs.
