Marko Tratar (born May 20, 1974 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian chess player .
Life
Marko Tratar comes from a chess family. At the age of seven he learned to play chess from an aunt.
successes
In 1989 he was Slovenian U15 champions in the Bacher Mountains , in 1991 in Maribor with half and in 1993 at Pokljuka with 1.5 points ahead of Slovenian U20 champions. In 1997 he won the Slovenian individual championship in Krško with equal points before Duško Pavasovič . He was runner-up in 2002 and 2007, and took third place in 1995, 1999, 2005 and 2008.
He became international champion in 1995. Since July 2006 he has been the eighth Slovene to hold the title of international grandmaster . He achieved the norms for this at the international tournament of LŠK Metalka Trgovina in January 2002 in Ljubljana, at the Open in December 2005 in Zadar and at the 9th International Open in February / March 2006 in Campillos . In February 2015 he is in seventh place in the Slovenian Elo ranking.
National team
With the Slovenian national team Tratar took part in the Chess Olympiads in 1992 , 1998 , 2002 (in the third team), 2006 and 2014 as well as the European Team Championships in 2007 and 2013. He also played at two U26 team world championships (1993 and 1997) and at five Mitropa Cups between 1997 and 2003 , where he won the team in Montecatini Terme in 1997 and he also won a gold medal for his result of 7.5 out of 9 got on the fourth board. In 1998 in Portorož and 2003 in Pula , the Slovenian team finished third with him on the fourth and second board.
societies
In Slovenia he has been playing for ŠK ZM Branik Maribor since 2004 , before that he played for ŠK Piramida Maribor , with whom he participated twice in the European Club Cup , for Ljubljan club LŠK Metalka Trgovina and in the meantime for ŠD Podpeč . In Austria he played until 1994 for IBS Klagenfurt Ost 1997 to 2001 for the SV Raika St. Veit / Glan and since 2003 for the SK Kleine Zeitung MPOE Maria Saal , with whom he started the 2005/06 season in the 1. Bundesliga play and became Austrian team champion in 2016 . In Croatia he plays for Pula and in the Bosnian Premijer Liga 2009 for HŠK Napredak Sarajevo . In the Luxembourg national division, he has been playing for the Gambit Bonnevoie team since the 2014/15 season , with whom he was Luxembourg team champion in 2017 and 2020 and took part in the 2017 European Club Cup.
Game example
At the 90th international tournament of the LŠK Metalka Trgovina in Ljubljana, Marko Tratar played on January 27, 2002 against the more than 200 Elo points stronger grandmaster Andrei Charlow . With an early queen loss Tratar on move 23 and despite the three-pawn deficit, he was able to defeat Charlow after 127 moves. It was in this tournament that Tratar achieved his first grandmaster norm.
