Duško Pavasovič (born October 15, 1976 in Split , SR Croatia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian chess player and coach of Croatian origin.

Life

In 1994 he finished second in the Slovenian U18 individual championship in Kranj . In 1995 he won the Raika Open in Paternion -Feffernitz. In 1997 in Krško and 1998 in Maribor he finished second in the Slovenian individual championship, in 1999 he won the Slovenian championship (in Kranj) and became grandmaster . In July 2000 he won the Open Carinthian State Championship in Sankt Veit an der Glan . In 2002 he was first at the Hit Open in Nova Gorica , in 2003 shared first there. In the same year he took part in the Slovenian championship again and finished second with equal points. In April 2006 he won the Neckar Open in Deizisau and in June 2006 the Open in Pula . In July 2006 he became Slovenian champion for the second time, this time in Ljubljana . At the 2007 European Championships in Dresden , he took fourth place. He had in this tournament with 2765 the highest rating of all participating players in the men's competition. In the same year he won the 17th Dr. Milan Vidmar Memorial in Ljubljana 1.5 points ahead. He won the Slovenian championship again in August 2007 in Ljubljana (in three-point classification with a six-point lead) and in February 2009 again the Hit Open in Nova Gorica. He has held the title of FIDE trainer since 2013 .

Pavasovič qualified twice for the World Chess Cup . In 2007 he defeated Alexander Shabalov in the first round and failed in the second round to Pyotr Swidler , in 2009 he was unable to compete due to a sports accident and thus lost to Judit Polgár in the first round without a fight . In February 2015 he was fourth in the Slovenian Elo ranking, but he is listed as inactive because he did not play an Elo-rated game after the 2013 European Team Championship in Warsaw . With his best rating to date of 2615, he was 86th in the FIDE world rankings in January 2004.

Team chess

For Slovenia he took part in seven consecutive Chess Olympiads from 1998 to 2010 (+32 = 25 −18) and between 1997 and 2013 in eight European Championships (+13 = 34 −11). He was also successful at the Mitropa Cup . In seven participations (+23 = 32 −7) he won three team gold (1997 in Montecatini Terme on board 2, 2002 in Leipzig on board 2 and 2005 in Steinbrunn on board 1) and twice the team bronze medal (1998 in Portorož on board 2 and 2003 in Pula on board 1). In 1997 he also won an individual gold medal at the Mitropa Cup for his result of 6 out of 9. At the 2012 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul Pavasovič was the non-playing team captain of the Slovenian national team.

He played club chess in Austrian (from 2005 to 2013 and again since 2015 for SK Maria Saal , with whom he became Austrian team champion in 2016 ), French (for Cercle d'Echecs de Rueil Malmaison ), Slovenian (previously for ŠK Triglav Krško , with whom he took part in the European Club Cup 1998 and the LŠK Metalka Trgovina , then for the ŠD Ptuj , with which he took part twice in the European Club Cup), Croatian (for ŠK Liburnija Rijeka ), Greek (for Mytilini ) and Italian ( for ASA Ancona ) 1st league. In Hungary he played for Csuti Antal SK until 2010 . Zalaegerszeg , with whom he won the team championship in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 and 2008 .
