Luka Lenič (born May 13, 1988 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian chess player .

Life

Luka Lenič learned to play chess at the age of seven. He attended a Slovenian chess high school for three years, graduating cum laude . There he was trained by the international master Matjaž Mikac . Then IM Zlatko Bašagić was his coach. He attends the chess school of IM Iztok Jelen . It is sponsored by the Slovenian Mobitel .

He used to play club chess in Slovenia for SD Vele Domžale , now he is with ŽŠK Maribor . In Croatia he plays for ŠK Liburnija Rijeka , the Croatian team champion in 2012. In Austria he plays for the Carinthian club Sv Raika Rapid Feffernitz , with whom he won the 2nd Bundesliga middle in 2011 and has played in the first Bundesliga ever since ; there he won the Austrian team championship on the top board in the 2016/17 and 2018/19 seasons . On the first board he had already scored 9 points from 11 games in the promotion season with an Elo performance of 2729. In Hungary he is active for the Aquaprofit Chess Club Nagykanisza , with whom he worked in the seasons 2006/07 , 2008/09 , 2009/10 , 2010/11 , 2011/12 , 2012/13 , 2013/14 , 2014/15 , 2015/16 , 2016/17 , 2017/18 and 2018/19 won the Hungarian team championship and at the European Club Cup 2007 in Kemer participated, in Greece for Ikaria and in Italy for SS Triestina . He has also played for a Turkish club. In Germany he has been playing for SV 1930 Hockenheim in the top German division, the Bundesliga chess league, since the 2011/12 season .

National

At the Slovenian individual championships in 1998 in Rogaška Slatina he won the U10-, 1999 in Rogaška Slatina and 2000 in Celje the U12-, 2001 in Rogaška Slatina and 2002 in Maribor the U14-, 2002 in Ankaran and 2003 in Novo mesto the U15-, 2003 in Maribor, 2004 in Celje and 2005 in Šentjur the U16-, 2006 in Murska Sobota the U18- and 2005 in Slovenj Gradec the U20 championship.

In 2008 he won the Slovenian individual championship for the first time, which was held in Ljubljana that year . He was able to defend his title in Otočec in 2009 , in Ljubljana in 2010 and in Šentjur pri Celju in 2013.

International

In November 2002 he was U12 world champion in Heraklion . In the U16 European Championships in August 2004 in Urgup he was behind Rauf Mamedov Second, in the U16 World Cup in November 2004 in Heraklion he finished third.

At the third place of the Slovenian U18 national team in 2004 in Belgrade he received an individual gold medal for his result of 5 points from 6 games on the third board. He took part in six Chess Olympiads ( 2002 for the Slovenian second team, 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 for the first team) and six European team championships (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 , 2013 and 2015). In its six Mitropa Cup participations (2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012), the Slovenian national team came third in 2003 and 2004, and second in 2012.

Title and rating

Since November 2007 he has held the title of chess grandmaster . He achieved the standards for this in July 2005 at the 16th  Milan Vidmar Memorial in Portorož , in the 2nd Austrian Bundesliga in mid-2005 /2006 and at the Croatian team championship in October 2007. He received the FM title in 2002, the IM - Title 2004. In February 2015 he leads the Slovenian Elo ranking.
