2nd German Chess League (Austria)
The 2nd Bundesliga is the second highest division in Austrian team chess .
Organizational form
The 2nd Bundesliga consists of the three seasons West , Middle and East . In each season, twelve teams compete in a simple round-robin tournament . Clubs from the regional associations of Burgenland , Lower Austria and Vienna play in the east relay, clubs from the regional associations of Carinthia , Upper Austria and Styria in the middle and clubs from the Salzburg , Tyrol and Vorarlberg regional associations in the west. The three season winners move up to the 1st Bundesliga , a total of nine teams from the 2nd Bundesliga and are replaced by the winners of the nine national leagues. The number of team points (2 points for every team fight won, 1 point for every undecided team fight, 0 points for every team fight lost), then the number of board points (1 point for each winning game, 0.5 points for each) determines the final placement Draw game, 0 points for each losing game). A maximum of one team per club is eligible to play in the 2nd Bundesliga.
14 players plus up to two youth players may be entered per team. The order of precedence is binding before the season. In principle, the ranking list must be reported according to skill level, but a different ranking list is permitted, provided that no player has more than 200 Elo points than a player who has been registered before him. There is no restriction on foreigners. The cooling-off time is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and 30 minutes until the end of the game; From the first move on, each player also receives a time credit of 30 seconds per move until the end of the game. A draw offer is only permitted from move 30.

After the establishment of the State League, the national leagues of the nine associations were initially the second-highest division. For the 1979/80 season, the associations Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Salzburg merged to form the Western League , two years later the Eastern League of Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Burgenland was founded, and the Southern League of Carinthia and Styria was founded last . For the 1986/87 season, the Vienna Association of the Eastern League joined. From the 1989/90 season, the league was known as State League . For the 1998/99 season, the State League B was expanded to include the middle season , which consisted of clubs from Salzburg and Upper Austria. Since the 2002/03 season the class has consisted of the three seasons West , Middle and East , and since the 2003/04 season it has been called the 2nd Bundesliga . Until 1988 only one team rose to the state league, from 1989 to 2002 two teams, so that the season winners (from 1987 to 1998 also the second of the eastern season) played a promotion tournament until 2002. The season winners have been promoted directly since the 2002/03 season.

Promoted to State League A or 1st Bundesliga
In addition to the teams marked in the tables, the following clubs were promoted to State League A by 2002:
- In 1980, SK St. Pölten, the winner of the Lower Austria regional league, was promoted.
- In 1981 the winner of the Vienna Regional League rose to SK Austria Wien.
- 1984 rose with the SK Flötzersteig-Breitensee the winner of the Viennese regional league.
- 1985 rose with the SC Donaustadt the winner of the Viennese regional league.
- In 1987 the SK Flötzersteig-Breitensee rose, which had taken second place in the Eastern League.
- In 1989 SK Baden rose, which had occupied second place in the State League B East.
- In 1991 the SC Traun 67 and the ATSV Stein / Steyr rose to the second and third place in the State League B East.
- 1992 rose with the Wiener Neustädter SV the second in the State League B East.
- In 1994, SK VÖEST Linz became second in the State League B East.
- In 1996, the Ottakring / Sandleiten syndicate rose to rank second in the Staatsliga B Ost.
Since the 2002/03 season, the relay winner has been promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, with exceptions in the following years:
- In 2005, the second SK Hohenems team was not eligible for promotion; SK Götzis, who placed second, took their place.
- In 2007, the second team from Styria Graz was not eligible for promotion, their place was taken by the second-placed SC Gleisdorf.
- In 2013 ASVÖ Pamhagen renounced the promotion, as did the second-placed Raiffeisen Währing, so that the third-placed SV Tschaturanga rose from the east relay.
- In 2014, the SK Zwettl renounced the promotion, the second place ASVÖ Pamhagen took.
- In 2015, the second team from MPÖ Maria Saal was not eligible for promotion; the second-placed Spielgemeinschaft Sauwald took their place.
- In 2016, the second team from MPÖ Maria Saal was not eligible for promotion, the second-placed ASK Case IH SteyrSt took their place. Valentin a. ASVÖ Pamhagen renounced the promotion, the place took the second-placed Blackburne Nickelsdorf.
- In 2018, the second SK Hohenems team was not eligible for promotion, their place was taken by the Mayrhofen / Zell / Zillertal syndicate that placed second.
