Walter Jäger (chess player)

Walter Bernhard Jäger (born July 12, 1913 in Frankfurt am Main ; † January 8, 1976 ) was a German chess player.

Chess successes

Jäger won the Frankfurt City Championship five times (1936, 1938, 1940, 1949 and 1950). He was four times (1949, 1951, 1955 and 1958) Hessian individual champion. Walter Jäger took part in five German championships (1951, 1953, 1955, 1957 and 1959). His best result was third place at the All-German Championship in 1951 in Düsseldorf behind Rudolf Teschner and Gerhard Pfeiffer . In 1952 the German Chess Federation awarded him the title of National Master . In 1956, Jäger won the Dähne Cup . In 1957 he took part with the German team at the European Team Championship in Vienna and reached 2.5 points from six games on the tenth board. Walter Jäger was awarded the Hessischer Schachverband e. V. and one year later with the silver plaque of honor of the Hessian Prime Minister. Jäger's best historical rating was 2536 in January 1952.

Walter Jäger played club chess for Chessfreunde Frankfurt in 1921 .

Private

Walter hunter was plumber , electrician and plumber , and had his main center in Frankfurt. He was married and had four children.
