Rainer Oechslein (born April 23, 1941 in Würzburg ) is a German chess player .

He played in the Bundesliga team of TV Marktheidenfeld and won the Dähne Cup in 1969.

At the German individual championships he played in Königsfeld in 1969 , in Völklingen in 1970 , which Hans-Joachim Hecht won, and in Oberursel in 1972 . He played at Bavarian Senior Championships and was Bavarian Senior Champion in 2007. In 2010 he finished second.

His highest rating was 2298 in October 2013. He plays in the major league for the Schweinfurt chess club.

Oechslein is also active in correspondence chess and has held the title of International Correspondence Chess Master since 1987.
