Carsten Müller (born May 8, 1970 in Braunschweig ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the German Bundestag .

After graduating from high school in 1989, Müller completed an apprenticeship as a banker until 1991 at the Kleine Burg high school in Braunschweig . In 1992 he began studying law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , which he completed in 1998 with the first state examination in law. During his studies he worked for Deutsche Bank in Braunschweig until 2001. After the second state examination in 2001, he settled as a lawyer in Braunschweig in 2002 . In 1997, Müller acquired the trademark rights of the automotive brand Borgward, which was lost in 1961, and sold them in 2005. From 1998 to 2001, Müller was also the managing director of various facility management companies and from 2003 to 2006 he took over the management of medium-sized companies. From 2005 to 2009, the independent lawyer was a member of the 16th German Bundestag. In addition, he advises companies on strategic issues and was chairman or member of the supervisory boards of various companies, including in the area of ​​local passenger transport. Since November 2010, Müller has been honorary chairman of the German Energy Efficiency Initiative. V. (DENEFF). In 2014 he was elected honorary chairman of VMDU eV - Association of Medium-sized Service Companies eV. Müller joined the Junge Union and the CDU as a student in 1986 . From 1989 to 1990 he was state chairman of the Schüler Union in Lower Saxony and from 1989 to 1991 he was state chairman of the Junge Union Braunschweig. Müller belonged from 1990 to 1992 and has been a member of the regional executive committee of the CDU Braunschweig since 2000. In spring 2010 he was offered the state chairmanship of the CDU regional association Braunschweig. For professional reasons, however, Müller turned down a candidacy and remained in office as state treasurer. From 1998 to 2018 he was deputy chairman of the CDU district association in Braunschweig. In March 2018 he was elected chairman of the CDU district association in Braunschweig. Since September 2014 he has also been a member of the presidium of the CDU in Lower Saxony.

Müller was a member of the Braunschweig City Council between 1991 and 2016. Among other things, he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group and a member of the administrative committee. As the chairman of the city finance committee at the time, Müller played a key role in the nationwide financial restructuring and debt relief of the city of Braunschweig.

From 2005 to 2009 he was a member of the 16th German Bundestag, in which he was drawn into the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list . In September 2013 and September 2017 he was re-elected to the German Bundestag via the state list. Müller was a member of the 5th committee of inquiry into the VW emissions scandal in the 18th German Bundestag . In the 19th legislative period, Müller is a full member of the Committee on Election Review, Immunity and Rules of Procedure, the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection and the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy. He is a deputy member of the Transport and Digital Infrastructure Committee. Müller is a deputy member of the German delegation to the Interparliamentary Union (IPU). Since April 2018, Müller has been a member of the board of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the Lower Saxony state group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. Since May 2014, Müller has been chairman of the Automobiles Kulturgut parliamentary group, which he co-founded in 2009. In June 2014 he co-founded the parliamentary group on energy efficiency and became its chairman.

In the federal election in 2017 , he was on the national list of the CDU in Lower Saxony elected to the German Bundestag.
