The Pavilion Theater , originally The Glasgow Pavilion Palace of Varieties , is a variety theater in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1977 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 2010.

history

The building was built between 1902 and 1904 based on a design by the prominent theater architect Bertie Crewe . The opening took place on February 29, 1904. In the first few years the theater focused on variety, melodramas and pantomime performances. Numerous well-known artists appeared in the theater, including Charlie Chaplin, who was still unknown at the time . The program has specialized in variety show since the 1930s. Today the Pavilion Theater is the only privately owned and unsubsidized theater in Scotland.
