The list of the team cadres of the German Chess League 1997/98 contains all players who were registered for the German Chess League 1997/98 with their individual results.
The maximum squad strength was reduced to 14 (8 regular players and 6 substitutes) before the season. Not all of the registered players were used. Hamburger SK and Dresdner SC got by with 10 players each, on the other hand, SG Porz, SG 1868-Aljechin Solingen, SG Bochum 31, SV Castrop-Rauxel, SK Zähringen and SVG Plettenberg put six Unite all registered players. A total of 198 players were used, 37 of whom competed in all competitions.
The best point player of the season was Thies Heinemann with 12 points from 15 games, one point less was achieved by Wolodymyr Baklan (SK Zähringen). Porzer Markus Stangl and Christian Gabriel from Solingen were 10.5 points , with Stangl playing 14 games and Gabriel 15. With David Norwood , Karl-Heinz Podzielny (both SG 1868-Aljechin Solingen), Vlastimil Hort , Lucas Brunner (both SG Porz), Pavel Blatný (Werder Bremen), Hans-Jürgen Meißner (Empor Berlin), Norbert Sehner (SV Castrop-Rauxel) and Wolfgang Kaiser (SK Passau) achieved eight players 100%, with Norwood and Hort playing four games each, Blatný, Brunner and Meißner each two, Podzielny, Sehner and Kaiser one each.
As in the previous season, Wolfgang Unzicker (1925-2006) from Duisburg was the oldest player and Luke McShane (* 1984) from Erfurt was the youngest player.
