Ketino Kachiani-Gersinska ( Georgian ქეთინო კახიანი-გერშინსკა ; born September 11, 1971 in Mestia ) is a German chess player from Georgia . In 1989 and 1990 she won the U20 World Youth Championships for girls twice .

She learned to play chess at the age of 5. In 1986 she won the USSR U16 championship for female youth. In the same year she took second place in the U16 youth world championship in Río Gallegos . In 1987 she won the women's individual championship of the Georgian SSR. In 1989 she became the U20 girls' world champion in Tunja , and one year later she repeated this success in Santiago de Chile .

In 1990 she won the Azov women's interzonal tournament , qualifying for the candidates' tournament . For these successes she received the title of Grand Master of Women from the World Chess Federation FIDE .

In 1993 Kachiani moved to Germany. In 1994 she took on German citizenship and was thus eligible to play for the German national team.

In 1995 she was runner-up in the women's interzonal tournament and in 1997 she took part in the candidates' tournament. In the same year she received the title of International Master .

In 2001 she achieved the best result on the first board at the European Team Championship. In 2004 she reached the quarter-finals of the women's world chess championship in Elista , where she was defeated by Ekaterina Kovalevskaya .

Most recently she was in the top 20 of the women's world rankings in the FIDE list of October 2002, her highest Elo number of 2465 she reached in April 2002.

In 2016 in Dresden , Ketino Kachiani-Gersinska won the women's German Masters ahead of Elisabeth Pähtz and Marta Michna . At that time the former world champion Nona Gaprindashvili was visiting Dresden .

National team

Kachiani-Gersinska took part in all eight Chess Olympiads from 1994 to 2008 with the German women's national team. She also took part in the 2007 Women's World Team Championships and eight European Women's Team Championships between 1992 and 2013 (1992 for Georgia, later for Germany). She was the best reserve player in Debrecen in 1992 and the most successful player on the top board in León in 2001 . At Mitropacup 1995 in Bükfürdö , she played on the fourth board of the German team and was the only woman to take part in the competition that year.

In the German Chess Bundesliga Kachiani-Gersinska played 1996-1998 for the SCA St. Ingbert, in the 1998-99 season for SV Werder Bremen and from 1999 to 2003 for TV Tegernsee .

From 1996 to 1999 she played in the women's Bundesliga for the Karlsruhe Chess Friends . Since 2002 she has played for OSG Baden-Baden (until 2004 SC Baden-Oos, from 2004 to 2008 OSC Baden-Baden), with whom she played in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2008 , 2009 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2015 , 2016 and won the German women's team championship in 2018 .

In the French women's team championship, Kachiani-Gersinska played for Bischwiller in the 2004/05 season .

Private

Kachiani graduated from Tbilisi University with a degree in journalism and graduated in 1993 with a diploma.

Since 1993 she has been married to Jürgen Gersinska, the former chairman of the OSG Baden-Baden chess club. She has two sons (born in 1995 and 2003) and now lives in Muggensturm .
