Bettina Trabert (born March 4, 1969 in Ottawa , Canada ) is a German women's chess grandmaster .
Life
She learned to play chess at the age of eight from her two older brothers.
In 1983, at the age of 14, she came second at the German U20 girls' championship in Hanau , behind Anja Dahlgrün . At the age of 14 she took part in her first international tournaments. In 1984 she finished fourth at the U16 World Cup for girls in Champigny-sur-Marne .
In 1987 she won the women's zone tournament in Erlangen , qualifying for the women's interzonal tournament in Tuzla . In the same year she was awarded the title of International Women's Champion (WIM). She took part in the Junior World Championships for under 20s in Adelaide (Australia) in 1988, and in 1989 in Tunja , Colombia , where she came in eighth. In the following years she competed in open tournaments and round-robin tournaments mainly against male opponents.
In 2000 she received from FIDE the Grandmaster title of women (WGM).
She studied ethnology , sociology and philosophy in Freiburg and Hamburg . She has a son with Spyridon Skembris .
National team
Bettina Trabert took part in the women's chess Olympiads in Dubai in 1986 , 1988 , 1990 , 1996 and 2000 and the European women's team championships in 1997 and 2005.

In the German women's Bundesliga, Bettina Trabert played for TSV Schott Mainz in the 1992/93 season, for SC Meerbauer Kiel from 2001 to 2004 and for SK Doppelbauer Kiel in the 2006/07 season .
In the French women's team championship, she played for Cannes Echecs from 2002 to 2004 , with whom she won the title in 2004 and took part in the European Women's Club Cup in 2003. In the Greek league, Bettina Trabert played for SAX Chania and SOP Patras .
In the 2015/16 season she was registered with SK Freiburg-Zähringen 1887 and as a guest player with SK Doppelbauer Kiel.
