Christian Bauer (born January 11, 1977 in Forbach ) is a French chess master .

Career

Bauer won the individual championship of France in Auxerre in 1996 and became grandmaster in 1997 . In 1999, he turned in the first round of the FIDE - World Chess Championship World Champion from 2004 Rustam Kasimdzhanov , but then failed in the second round of Péter Lékó .

Under tragic circumstances, Christian Bauer was again French champion in Pau in August 2012 (together with Étienne Bacrot , Romain Édouard and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave ). Christian Bauer's four-month-old baby died before the last round. The tournament was then canceled and the participants of the tournament agreed to award the title to the top four with 7 points each.

With his best Elo rating of 2682, Bauer was 69th in the world in August 2012.

In the Swiss group championship, Bauer played for the Réti Zurich chess club from 2012 to 2014 . Bauer was Swiss team champion in 2001 , 2004 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2016 , and Swiss group champion in 2012/13 and 2013/14 . In Austria, Bauer has been playing for SK Sparkasse Jenbach since 2012 and became the Austrian team champion in 2013 and 2015 . He has been playing for 3Cs in the British Four Nations Chess League since the 2015/16 season . Style of play

Bauer is known for his unconventional opening treatment, with the black pieces he plays rarely encountered openings at grandmaster level such as the Scandinavian Defense , the Alekhine Defense or the Owen Defense . In 2005 he wrote a book about the latter system.
