Marie Rachel Sebag (born October 15, 1986 in Paris ) is a French chess player .

Single successes

Sebag is a two-time French women's champion, winning her first title in 2000 at the age of 14 and repeating her success two years later. Internationally, she won three European youth championships for girls, her first title win in the under 12 year olds (U12) in 1998, followed by more in the U14 and U16 categories in 1999 and 2002. At the following world championship for girls under 18 she came third (world champion was the German Elisabeth Pähtz ), two years later in 2004 - she was tied for first, but the title went to Polish Jolanta Zawadzka after a fine evaluation .

In 2000 and 2002, Sebag won the French women's championship . In 2006 she failed in the women's chess world championship , which was played in the knockout system , in the quarter-finals only after a playoff against the Russian Swetlana Matwejewa .

Sebag was named International Master of Women (WIM) in 2000, and in 2003 she was awarded both the title of Grand Master of Women (WGM) and that of an International Master (IM). At the time of her appointment she had already met five WGM standards, namely at the 2001 European Women's Team Championship in León , in July 2002 at an open tournament on Ikaria , in October 2002 at the U18 Women's World Youth Championship in Heraklion , at the Chess Olympiad Women in Bled in 2002 and in March 2003 at the Trophee Stroer WGM in Cannes . The norms from León and Ikaria counted as IM norms at the same time, further IM norms they fulfilled in 2003 at the Neckar Open in Deizisau and at the European Women's Championship in Istanbul . Marie Sebag has held the title of Grand Master (GM) since 2008 . She achieved the required standards in Top 16 2005/06 , the eleventh Hogeschool Zeeland Open held in Vlissingen in August 2007 and at the European Championships in April and May 2008 in Plovdiv .

In July 2016 she was ranked 16th in the world rankings for women.

Marie Sebag took part in the Chess Olympiads in 2002, 2004 , 2008 , 2010 , 2014 and 2018 with the French national women's team. Sebag took part in the women's European team championships in 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2017, becoming European team champion in 2001 as well as winning the individual ranking on the second board.

Club chess

In the German women's Bundesliga , Sebag played for SC Meerbauer Kiel from 2001 to 2003 (for which she was also registered in the 2003/04 season but was not used), in the 2004/05 season for SK Holsterhausen , from 2005 to 2007 for SV Walldorf in 1947 and since 2012 for the SC Bad Königshofen , with whom she in 2014 won the title. In the French league she played in the 2001/02 season for NAO Caissa , from 2002 to 2004 for Association Cannes-Echecs , from 2004 to 2007 for Évry Grand Roque , in 2007 she moved to Chalons En Champagne . In the 2010/11 season Sebag played for Lutèce Echecs , in the 2012/13 season at Évry Grand Roque , in the 2013/14 season again for Chalons En Champagne , from the 2014/15 to 2017 season at Cercle d'Echecs de Strasbourg , 2018 at Grasse Echecs and since 2019 at Bischwiller . Marie Sebag won the French team championship in 2010 with Châlons-en-Champagne and in 2019 with Bischwiller, the French women's team championship in 2004 with Cannes, and in 2006 and 2013 with Évry. In the 2006/07 season , Marie Sebag was Belgian team champion with Cercle Royal d 'Echecs de Liège . In the subsequent European Cup competition for club teams (2007 in Kemer ), the European Club Cup , she played for the Liège club on the top board. In 2003 she took part in the European Club Cup for women with Cannes Echecs and achieved the best individual result on the second board. In the British Four Nations Chess League Sebag played in the seasons 2003/04 and 2005/06 with the North West Eagles , the Greek team championship she won in 2002 and 2003 with AO Kydon Chania .
