Cercle d'Echecs de Strasbourg
The Cercle d'Echecs de Strasbourg (CES) is a traditional and successful French chess club in Strasbourg . He played an important role in the development of the chess organization in France.

In 1887 the Strasbourg Chess Society was founded. After the First World War, when Strasbourg and Alsace again belonged to France, the club hosted the first meeting of the chess clubs of Alsace and Lorraine in 1922 and hosted the third French individual championship in 1924.
Since 1952, the association has been registered in the Strasbourg register of associations under the name Cercle d'Echecs de Strasbourg . On the initiative of Strasbourg Chess Friends , Europe Échecs , the oldest French chess newspaper , was founded in 1959 . In the 1970s, at a time when most chess tournaments were organized as closed invitation tournaments, active members of the CES established a tradition of open international chess tournaments in Strasbourg.
In 1980, the establishment of the French team championship was initiated by the CES. Strasbourg won this competition the first five times. After that, no further title was won, but the club was able to hold onto the French premier league until today, with a few exceptions. In addition to these five national titles, the CES can also look back on fourteen French Cup victories.
