Romain Édouard (born November 28, 1990 in Poitiers ) is a French chess master .

Life

Édouard won or occupied top places in several tournaments: 1st place at the U16 European Youth Championship in Herceg Novi (2006), 2nd place at the U18 World Youth Championship in Kemer (2007), 2nd place at the U18 European Youth Championship in Šibenik ( 2007) and 1st place at the Rapid tournament Circuit Espoirts in Lyon (2008).

In August 2012, Édouard in Pau became French champions together with Christian Bauer , Étienne Bacrot and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave . The tournament was canceled before the last round due to the death of Bauer's four-month-old child, the French Chess Federation awarded the title to the four leading players at the time. In April 2014 he won the 16th Dubai Open with 8 points from 9 games.

He has held the title of grandmaster since 2009 . In 2009 he won the Bad Wörishofen Chess Festival ahead of Wladimir Jepischin and Sebastian Bogner .

National team

Édouard took part with the French national team in the Chess Olympiads 2010 , 2012 , 2014 , 2016 and 2018 as well as the European Team Championships in 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2019. In 2013, France came second, while Édouard won the individual ranking on the third board.

In the French team championship, Édouard played in the 2004/05 season for Sautron , in the 2005/06 season at Montpellier , from 2006 to 2009 for Clichy-Echecs-92 , with whom he was French team champion in 2007 and 2008 and in 2008 at the European Club Cup participated, from 2009 to 2013 at L'Echiquier Chalonnais , with whom he became champion in 2010 ; since the 2013/14 season he has been playing for Bischwiller , with whom he became French team champion in 2015 , 2018 and 2019 .

In the German federal chess league he played from 2008 to 2011 for the Solingen chess company , in the 2011/12 season and again since the 2013/14 season for SV Werder Bremen . In the Swiss National League A , he played for the Lucerne chess club in 2010 and since then for the Club d'Echecs de Genève , with which he was champion in 2012 , 2015 and 2019 . With the Club d'Echecs de Genève , he also took part in the European Club Cup in 2012 and achieved the best result on the first board.

In the British Four Nations Chess League , Édouard has been playing for the Guildford A&DC team since 2011 , with whom he was team champion in 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 , 2018 and 2019 .

In Belgium, Édouard played for Schachfreunde Wirtzfeld from 2009 to 2013 , with whom he became Belgian team champion in 2013 , in the 2014/15 season he played for the master L'Echiquier Amaytois and since the 2015/16 season for the Koninklijke Gentse Schaakkring Ruy Lopez , with which he also won the title in 2016 and took part in the European Club Cup in 2016 and 2018. In Luxembourg he played for Le Cavalier Differdange in the 2009/10 season and for De Sprénger Echternach from 2010 to 2012 , with whom he became champion in 2011 . In Spain he has been playing for Sestao XT since 2010 , with whom he was Spanish team champion in 2012 , 2013 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 and also took part in the European Club Cup in 2014.
