Four Nations Chess League 2016/17

The Four Nations Chess League 2016/17 is the 24th season of the Four Nations Chess League (4NCL).

The defending champion Guildford A&DC prevailed again without losing points. In the previous year the Celtic Tigers , the Anglian Avengers , North East England and Kings Head had risen; all four newcomers had to descend immediately.

Game dates

The competitions took place on November 19 and 20, 2016, January 14 and 15, 2017, February 11 and 12, 2017, March 4 and 5, 2017 and from April 29 to May 1, 2017. The first two Rounds were held in Mortimer , rounds 3 to 6 in Northampton and the last five rounds in Telford .

Note : The previous year's ranking is given in brackets. If it is preceded by an "A", it is the previous year's ranking of a promoted player in Division 2. Third place in Division 2 went to the youth team of the Barbican Chess Club who were not eligible for promotion.

Pool A

While the first three and the last places were already taken after six rounds, the decision about the last starting place in the championship pool was not made until the final round.

Note : Due to a non-fighting defeat, Kings Head was deducted one point each in the competitions against 3Cs and the South Wales Dragons. For the same reason, the South Wales Dragons were each deducted half a board point in the competitions against Cheddleton and 3Cs.

In addition to the defending champion Guildford A&DC, the Cheddleton and Leek Chess Club started with 8-0 points, but in the end Guildford clearly stood out.
