Lucerne ranked second behind Biel. In the second season in the NLA, Lucerne placed third. In the third season, Lucerne fell back to fifth.

In 1991 Lucerne won the Swiss team championship for the first time with Robert Huebner at the top. Later the grandmasters Larry Christiansen and Artur Jussupow , Michele Godena , Rustem Dautov , Vadim Milov and Vlastimil Hort also played for Lucerne.
