Top 16 (chess) 2009/10
The Top 16 2009/10 was the 30th French team championship in chess and at the same time the last, which was held with 16 teams. From the 2010/11 season only 12 teams took part, so the competition was renamed Top 12 for the coming season .
Champion was the Club de L'Echiquier Chalonnais , which relegated the defending champion Évry Grand Roque to second place. From the National I were the Club de Echiquier Guingampais , the Club de L'Echiquier DEAUVILLAIS , the Club de Lyon Olympique Echecs and the Club de Bischwiller ascended. In purely sporting terms, all promoted teams would have been relegated directly with the Club de Cavalier Bleu Drancy and the Club de Montpellier Echecs (due to the reduction of the league to 12 teams, six teams had to relegate this time), but the Cannes-Echecs Association withdrew its team Guingamp as the best relegated still the relegation.

mode
The tournament was divided into a preliminary round and a final round. The 16 participating teams were divided into two groups of eight ( Groupe A and Groupe B ) and played a simple round-robin tournament in these . The first four of both groups played in Poule Haute , the last four in Poule Basse against relegation. Teams that met in the preliminary round did not play against each other again in the final round. First, the total of the team points achieved in the preliminary and final rounds (3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw, 1 point for a defeat, 0 points for a defeat without a fight) decided on the placement, then the direct comparison, then the difference between Winning and losing games.
Game dates
The competitions were held from March 26th to 28th, April 29th to May 2nd and June 3rd to 6th, 2010. In Groupe A, two competitions were held in Évry and Vandœuvre-lès- in the first three rounds . Nancy played while the fourth through seventh rounds were centered in Marseille . In Groupe B, two competitions each were played in Châlons-en-Champagne and Clichy in the first three rounds , while the fourth to seventh rounds were held centrally in Mulhouse . All of the Poule Haute and Poule Basse competitions took place in Guingamp .

Finals
Poule Haute
Évry and Châlons-en-Champagne had started with 7 wins each in the Poule Haute, and since both won the first three competitions of the finals, the direct comparison decided on the awarding of the title. The final draw was enough for Châlons-en-Champagne to win the championship thanks to the better number of points on the board.

Poule Basse
Even before the last lap, Lyon, Deauville, Montpellier and Bischwiller (who also did not appear at Poule Basse) were relegated, while Strasbourg, Guingamp and Drancy were still fighting for tenth place. Strasbourg achieved relegation by beating Drancy, while Cannes' withdrawal meant that Guingamp also remained first class.
