Marco Thinius (born March 25, 1968 in Dahme / Mark ) is a German bassoonist and chess player .

Marco Thinius plays the solo bassoon in the Staatskapelle Weimar . Together with Jan Doormann , among others , he plays in the quartet Les Quatre Vents .

Marco Thinius began playing chess at the age of nine, but played in his youth only correspondence chess because he grew up in a city where there is no chess club was. He only started playing near chess at the age of 17.

Thinius played until 1999 for SV Empor Berlin , for which he played in the seasons 1991/92 , 1992/93 , 1993/94 , 1996/97 and 1997/98 in the top German division, the 1st Bundesliga , and at European Club Cup 1997 participated, from 1999 to 2001 with the Erfurter SK in the 2nd Bundesliga, from 2001 to 2004 for the Saxon club SK Großlehna , in the season 2004/05 for the SK König Tegel in the 2nd Bundesliga and from 2005 to 2014 for the Schachfreunde Berlin , where he played in the 1st Bundesliga in the seasons 2005/06 , 2006/07 , 2008/09 , 2009/10 , 2010/11 and 2012/13 . In the 2014/15 season he is registered with Empor Berlin . In the Austrian State League A he played in the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 seasons for SK Fürstenfeld .

He has held the title of International Master since 2008 . He achieved the necessary standards at the Berlin Summer in August 1991, at the Olomouc Summer in August 2003 and at the 7th Open Bavarian Championship in Bad Wiessee in November 2003, where he was able to defeat Vladimir Burmakin , among others . However , he only achieved the required Elo rating of 2400 for the title in October 2008, so that it could only be awarded to him almost five years after the last standard had been reached.
