Georg Siegel (born August 2, 1962 in Haslach im Kinzigtal ; missing since December 7, 2010 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German chess , bridge and backgammon player .

Life

Georg Siegel grew up in the Freiburg district of Haslach and had five siblings. His first chess club was the SK Freiburg-West , which he joined at the age of eleven. The autistic and manic-depressive Georg Siegel was treated for the first time at the Center for Psychiatry Emmendingen when he was 20 years old . Before that, he had dropped out of school.

On December 7, 2010, Georg Siegel had an accident in the flood-leading Dreisam in Freiburg, where he was most likely killed. A corpse has not been found until today.

In 1980 he became German U20 champion in Saarbrücken . In 1995 he was able to win the German championship in rapid chess in Essen , in 1996 in Apolda he was second behind Peter Enders . In the same year he won the championship tournament of the Zurich Christmas Open . Siegel won the First Saturday Tournament FS02 in Budapest in 1997 with an Elo rating of 2612. In the Grand Master's Tournament of the Recklinghausen Chess Days in 1998, which József Pintér won, he took 5th place, ahead of Romuald Mainka and Thomas Luther .

He played in French (for Illkirch-Graffenstaden ) and Swiss leagues. In Switzerland he played for SC Gligorić Zurich in 2008 . In the 2007/08 season he was active at Birsfelden / Beider Basel after Sorab Basel , for whom he had previously played, withdrew his team from the National League A. Before that he played for SG Riehen . He won the Swiss Bundesliga in the 2004 season with Basel BVB and in the 2006 , 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons with SV Birsfelden / Beider Basel . In Germany he played for the SK Freiburg-West , the Freiburger Schachfreunde 1887 eV , Rochade Kuppenheim and the SK Freiburg-Wiehre 2000 . Since 1980 he has played in the German Federal Chess League , initially for SK Zähringen in 1921 , for which he played on the first board in 1981/82 . In the 1982/83 season he played for Königsspringer Frankfurt , with the team of FC Bayern Munich he won the German team championship in the 1984/85 season . Between the 1987/88 season and the 1998/99 season he played another six seasons with SK Zähringen in 1921 in the 1st Bundesliga. Most recently he played again at SK Freiburg-Zähringen in 1887 in the Baden South Association League (4th league).

Georg Siegel received the title of International Master in 1994 . He had his highest rating of 2540 from July 1997 to March 1998. With this rating, he was one of the top 20 players in the German Chess Federation .

Backgammon, Bridge and Go

In the DBgL ranking list of June 30, 2012, his backgammon ELO of 1594.0 with an experience of 137 would have been 63rd, but he was listed as inactive. In 2002 he finished second at the 20th Open in Thun . In 2004 he won the main tournament of the Basel Games . At the Südbaden-Cup in Freiburg im Breisgau he won the tournament in February 2005 and was runner-up in August 2005.

He was also successful in go and bridge. For example, he finished seventh in the card game in Basel in 1999 and won a tournament in Titisee-Neustadt in 2010 . In Go he had a master's rank, the 1st Dan .

The cabaret artist Matthias Deutschmann had known Siegel since the 1970s and later described him as an "exceptional talent" and "complete player".
