SG Riehen

The Schachgesellschaft Riehen is a chess club from Riehen in the canton of Basel-Stadt .

The club was founded by ten chess lovers on February 23, 1928 in what was then the Rössli coffee shop. In 1980 the chess company rose to the National League A for the first time in the Swiss Team Championship . She remained a lift team in the years that followed, before being able to assert itself in the NLA since 2003. In 2011, 2013 and 2014 the club was runner-up in Switzerland. In the Swiss group championship, Riehen is in the 1st Bundesliga .

In the 2016 NLA season , SG Riehen was represented by the players Jörg Hickl , Olivier Renet , Andreas Heimann , Ognjen Cvitan , Ioannis Georgiadis , Nicolas Brunner , Ralph Buss , Bela Toth , Sebastian Schmidt-Schäffer and Patrik Grandadam, the team achieved the 3rd place behind SG Zurich and SG Winterthur .
