Ognjen Cvitan (born October 10, 1961 in Šibenik ) is a Croatian chess master .

Life

As a representative of Yugoslavia, Cvitan won the Junior World Championship in Mexico City in 1981 and was named International Master by FIDE . He has been a grandmaster since 1987 .

Team chess

National team

Cvitan took part in eight Chess Olympiads . At the 1990 Chess Olympiad in Novi Sad he represented Yugoslavia in the C-Team, then from 1992 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2006 Croatia . At the 1992 Olympics in Manila he was awarded the gold medal as 2nd reserve for the best individual performance (+6 = 4 −0). Cvitan also took part in six European Team Championships (1989 with Yugoslavia, which took second place, 1992 to 2003 with Croatia) and the 1997 World Team Championship.

Cvitan played in the Croatian league for Rijeka, in the Bosnian Premijer liga for HŠK Napredak Sarajevo and ŠK Tuzla in the Slovenian league for ŠK Nova Gorica. In the Swiss National League A , Cvitan played until 2002 and from 2004 to 2007 for SG Biel, which he was team champion in 2000 , 2001 and 2004 , and in 2003 for Sorab Basel; since 2008 he has been playing for the Riehen chess company . In the Swiss Bundesliga he played for Birsfelden / Beider Basel in 2000 and 2004, and in 2002 for Niederrohrdorf, with whom he became group champion. In the German federal chess league Cvitan played from 1997 to 1999 at SK Zähringen. Later he was registered in Germany for the DJK Aufwärts Aachen , with which he won 2nd place in the German Blitz team championship in 2010.

Between 1993 and 2005, Cvitan took part in the European Club Cup six times .
