Martin Dreyer (2008)

Martin Dreyer (born February 27, 1965 in Hamburg ) is a writer and free church theologian . He founded the Jesus Freaks and is the initiator of the Volxbibel project .

Life

Dreyer is the son of Rosemarie and Ulrich Dreyer. He attended the Hinsbleek primary school in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel and the Hummelsbüttel grammar school , where he graduated from high school in 1985. After completing his military service, he initially studied biology and theology for teaching at the University of Hamburg , but dropped out after a year. From 1991 to 1995 he did pastor training at the Anskar College of the Anskar Church in Hamburg and was ordained as a pastor in 1995 . At the same time, he trained as a therapeutic advisor in the field of drugs and addiction in 1991/92 at the Institute for Further Education and Psychotherapy Hamburg (IWPH). From 1990 to 1991 he worked as a missionary for the youth organization Youth With A Mission in Amsterdam .

In 1992 he founded the Christian youth association Jesus Freaks in Hamburg , which he headed as pastor and first chairman until 1998. In 1994 he was named Christian of the Year by the evangelical news magazine ideaSpektrum . From 1996 to February 2001 he worked as a therapeutic advisor in the ambulant drug help pallet e. V. in Hamburg.

From 2001 he studied at the University of Cologne diploma pedagogy with a focus on counseling methods and social pedagogy and completed his studies in June 2007. From 2002 to 2009 he worked as an educational assistant in the youth center in Cologne-Sülz and since March 2004 he was the educational and technical director of the internet café for young people JuxJu in Cologne-Junkersdorf . He works mainly as a freelance theologian and author and gives readings and sermons in congregations in Germany.

In 2005 he published the Volxbibel , a free translation of the New Testament into an easily understandable, non-religious language. The Volxbibel is the first Bible worldwide that can be further developed by registered users on a wiki platform on the Internet. At the Christian artist fair Promikon in March 2006, Dreyer was awarded the award for initiative and vision by a jury for the Volxbibel and the associated wiki concept .

From the beginning of 2008 to the end of 2009 Dreyer worked on the Wiki platform on the Old Testament , which was published in two volumes (Volume 1 in May 2009, Volume 2 in May 2010 in collaboration with Droemer-Knaur ). In May 2010 he received the WebFish in silver from the EKD for the Volxbibel-Wiki . In 2012 the 4.0 version was exported and published as a complete edition (AT and NT in one volume). At present one assumes a total circulation of half a million full Bibles. The full Bible was heavily criticized by evangelical circles.

In 2011 Dreyer published his autobiography entitled Jesus Freak. Life between neighborhood, coke and church at Pattloch Verlag Munich.

From mid-November to mid-December 2014 Dreyer was seen as a pastor in the five episodes SAT.1 series Wedding at First Sight . In the format, people are selected by experts who marry in a civil ceremony without knowing each other beforehand. SAT.1 announced a continuation of the series in early 2015. For the second season Dreyer got out of the format.

Dreyer is married, has a daughter and a son and lives in Berlin .

criticism

Even before his Volxbibel was published, there was massive criticism from conservative circles for his book. In 2006 , Waldemar Grab designed a seven-point plan on his website no-zur-volxbibel.de as to how the sale of the Volxbibel could be stopped. The Christian press review Zeltmacher issued a declaration and a list of signatures in 2005 with the title God does not allow himself to be scoffed at . It was demanded that all volxbibles be taken from the market and repented publicly. 1500 signatures supported this cause.

Dreyer's participation as an expert for the SAT1 broadcast Wedding at First Sight was criticized by various Christian sources. The Catholic theologian and author Johannes Hartl wrote , "Christians [should] never take part in something that obscures the biblical testimony". Margot Käßmann criticized him in an interview with Stern magazine: "Marriage is definitely not fun for a short television conversation."
