Wedding at first sight

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wedding at first sight is a docu-soap that has been broadcast on Sat.1 on Sunday evening since 2014 . The concept comes from the Danish show Gift Ved Første Blik .

concept

In each season of the show, experts put together four or six couples after several casting rounds, who enter into a legally valid marriage when they first meet in a registry office. Then it is shown how the couples spend their honeymoon and everyday life together. After six weeks the decision has to be made whether they want to get divorced again.

Result

In the first season, three of the four couples split up. The couples of the second season all broke up. In the third season, three of the four couples got divorced. The fourth season starts with five instead of four couples, of which only one couple stayed together. The fifth season started with 6 couples. Two of them stayed together. Season 6 also started in 2019 with 6 couples, 4 of whom stayed married.

Of the total of 28 couples in the 6 years, only 5 are currently (as of June 16, 2020) together.

Experts |

The psychotherapist and psychoanalyst Sandra Köhldorfer , the qualified psychologist and matching expert Markus Ernst and the systemic couple and sex therapist Beate Quinn were shown as experts who determined the couples and accompanied them during the season . In the first season, Martin Dreyer was there as a pastor, Ingrid Strobel as a couple therapist and analyst and the interior design therapist Uwe Linke.

criticism

A former participant in the program reported in the press in 2017 that she felt that the program was being shown to her in public and that this was causing her life to suffer considerable stress. From the beginning, her spouse was specifically selected by the editorial team in such a way that it amounted to a “failure” with the highest possible entertainment value for the audience.

The Archbishop of Cologne Rainer Maria Cardinal Woelki ruled that the show perverted marriage and love.

Audience ratings

The first season achieved a 13.3% market share among 14 to 49-year-olds, which fell to 10.8% in the second season. The third season achieved 11.9% market share.
