Hrvoje Stević (born January 8, 1980 in Osijek ) is a Croatian chess master .

Life

Even as a teenager, Stević was one of the best of his age: in 1991 he was third at the European Youth Championships U12 in Mamaia , a year later second in Rimavská Sobota , 1995 U16 youth world champion in Guarapuava . For the first time he took part in the Croatian national championship in 2000; he won the national championship of 2007, which was held in January 2008 in Split .

His international successes include first places in Mravinci 1995, Zadar 2002, Bošnjaci 2004 and 2005. In 1996, FIDE awarded Stević the title of International Master , and in 2002 he became Grand Master .

Stević studied law and lives in Đakovo .

National team

Stević took part with the Croatian national team in the 1998 , 2002 , 2004 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 chess Olympiads and the 1997 European team championships (in Croatia's second team), 1999, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2011 , 2013 and 2015.

Stević plays for ŠK Đakovo , with whom he took part in the 1994 European Club Cup . He played in the Bosnian Premijer Liga in 2003 and from 2007 to 2011 for ŠK Bihać , with whom he became champions in 2010 and took part in the European Club Cup, and in 2014 for ŠK Bosna Sarajevo . In the Austrian 1st Bundesliga he has been playing for SV Wolfsberg since 2013 , and in Belgium since 2014 for L'Echiquier Amaytois , with whom he became champions in 2015 . In Germany he plays for DJK Aufwärts Aachen , in the Hungarian team championship for Dunaharaszti Munkás Testedző Kör (after he played for ASE Paks in the 2015/16 season) and in France for Nice Alekhine .
