Ralph Buss (born July 5, 1982 in Basel ) is a Swiss chess player .

Life

He learned to play chess from his father at the age of five. Ralph Buss studied law at the University of Basel . He graduated in 2008 with a law degree . In 2011 he was admitted to the bar . He works as a clerk at the Swiss Federal Supreme Court , previously he was employed in a law firm in Basel.

successes

For the Swiss national team he played at the U18 European Championships in 2000 in Balatonlelle , at the Mitropa Cup in Chur in 2010 , in which Switzerland took third place, and at the 2010 Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk .

He has been playing club chess in Switzerland for the Echallens Chess Club in the National League A since 2018 , after having played for SG Riehen for years , and since 2014 for the Cercle d'échecs de Nyon in the Bundesliga . He has also played for other Swiss clubs, for example SC Neu-Allschwil and Reinach Rössli 97 (later after the merger Birsfelden Beider Basel Rössli ). With SC Niederrohrdorf he took part in the European Club Cups in 2005 and 2009. In Germany, he played for SC Dreiländereck Weil from 1999 to 2001, for SVG Konstanz from 2002 to 2004 and for SC Horben since the 2004/05 season .

Since July 2010 he has held the title of International Master . He achieved the norms for this in the Swiss team championships in 2004 (with Reinach Rössli ) and 2009 (with SG Riehen and overachievement), the European Club Cup in 2009 in Ohrid and the European championship in Rijeka in 2010 . Since he got his norm from just seven games at the European Club Cup, he needed the fourth norm.

Its Elo rating is 2340 (as of November 2019), its highest to date was 2433 from July to October 2010.
