Karl-Heinz Podzielny jun. (Born September 10, 1954 in Essen ; † August 1, 2019 in Essen) was a German chess player .
Life
As a teenager, Karl-Heinz Podzielny jun. talked about: in 1974 he won the German Youth Championship in Bamberg , at the European Youth Championship 1974/75 he took second place (winner was John Nunn ).
Because of his outstanding skill in blitz chess , he was nicknamed Podz-Blitz . He is a multiple winner of the German blitz chess championship (1974, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1985, 1986, 2007) and was the record title holder in this discipline for a long time. In the meantime, Klaus Bischoff has replaced him. In 2007 he won the German rapid chess championship in Bad Lauterberg 1.5 points ahead of Thorsten Michael Haub , in 2008 he was able to defend his title in Fredersdorf-Vogelsdorf 1.5 points ahead of Mathias Womacka, and in 2009 he defended his title again in Kiel with a half point ahead of David Baramidze . In 2013 he was able to win the Open in Goch. Podzielny, multiple individual champion from North Rhine-Westphalia , lived in Essen .
In the four-track 1. Bundesliga Podzielny played from 1975 to 1980 for the Sportfreunde Katernberg . In the single track 1. Bundesliga, he played in the 1980/81 season for SC 1868 Bamberg , 1981-1983 for King Springer Frankfurt from 1983 to 1985, the SG Enger / Spenge and from 1989 to 1998 the Solingen SG 1868 , with which he became German team champion in 1997 and reached the semi-finals in the European Club Cup in 1992 .
In 1986 the World Chess Federation FIDE awarded him the title of International Master . He achieved a grandmaster norm in 2000 at the International Julian Borowsky Tournament in Essen. From the 2014/15 season he played team chess at SV Letmathe .
His father Karlheinz Podzielny sen. (1928-2015) was a strong correspondence chess player who carried the title of international correspondence chess master and was captain of the German national correspondence chess team.
