SC 1868 Bamberg

The chess club 1868 Bamberg is a traditional chess club in Bamberg .

The club won the German team championship three times in 1966, 1976 and 1977 . Participants on the top boards were Helmut Pfleger and Lothar Schmid as well as - in the last two title wins - the younger champions Bernd Feustel and Volkhard Rührig , who had benefited from the club's intensive youth work. In 1983/84, Bamberg also won the German team cup. The SC 1868 Bamberg was represented with interruptions in the German Chess League until the 1995/96 season .

On the occasion of its centenary, the association organized an international tournament with sixteen masters in 1968, which Paul Keres won ahead of Tigran Petrosjan and tournament organizer Lothar Schmid.

The club takes part in the season with five teams in the game, plus two youth teams.

The first team plays in the regional league north, the second in the regional league north-west and the third in the district league. With the 4th and 5th team, two teams are represented in the district league. The two youth teams play in the district league.
