Holger Ellers (born September 17, 1976 ) is a German chess player .

Life

Holger Ellers attended the municipal collegiate high school in Xanten . He studied at the University of Rostock . At the University of Potsdam he received his doctorate in 2005 on the subject of the replacement of wasted expenses and was a research assistant in the field of civil law, German and international business law at Jens Petersen . Ellers is a lawyer specializing in insolvency law in Berlin.

In his youth, Holger Ellers played for the chess club Xanten , then moved to SG Bochum 31 . With Bochum he was German team champion U20 in Bonn in 1994 and in Leipzig in 1995 . At SG Bochum 31 he had individual assignments in the 1st Bundesliga from 1993 to 1995 , and from the 1995/96 season he played regularly in the 1st division. In 1999 he moved from Bochum 31 to SV Wattenscheid , with whom he was registered in the Bundesliga until 2008, but no longer played in the Bundesliga after 2005. From Wattenscheid he moved to SC Kreuzberg for the 2008/09 season . For the German national team he played on the first reserve board at the Mitropa Cup in Portorož in 1998 . With the team from the University of Rostock , he was German university champion playing on the first board in Magdeburg in 1999 .

In Austria he played in the national leagues A and B West (champions in the 2000/01 season) and the 1st Bundesliga until 2004 for SK Sparkasse Jenbach .

He has held the title of International Master since 1997 . Its Elo rating is 2362 (as of September 2018), its highest rating to date was 2450 in the first half of 1998.
