Federal Chess League 1977/78

The 1977/78 season was the fourth season of the four-track chess Bundesliga .

mode

Eight teams each played a simple round-robin tournament in the North, West, Southwest and South seasons . The four season winners qualified for the final round, which was held centrally over a long weekend, the seventh and eighth of each season were relegated. The North relay comprised the regional associations of Berlin, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Weser-Ems, the West relay included the Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia regional associations, the Southwest relay consisted of the Baden, Middle Rhine, Palatinate and Saarland regional associations during the relay South associations of the state associations Bavaria and Württemberg-Hohenzollern belonged. The number of team points decided on the placement, in the event of a tie, play-off fights were played for group victory and relegation, otherwise the number of board points decided. In the final round there were generally no playoffs played, but in the event of a tie based on team points, the number of board points decided.

Preliminary round

North

With SC Concordia and SK Bremen-Nord, two clubs with Bundesliga experience were promoted to the North Season . While the Hamburg was just able to stay in the Bundesliga, the Bremen had to relegate immediately, as did SV Wilmersdorf . The Delmenhorster SK was like last year only one draw from and qualified so for the fourth time in a row for the final round.

SG Bochum 31 and SK Marburg were promoted to the West season . While the Bochum team managed to stay in the league, Marburg had to relegate again, as did PSV / BSV Wuppertal .

Königsspringer Frankfurt and the Düsseldorf SG Rochade fought head-to-head for the relay victory. After the direct comparison ended 4: 4 and both teams also tied another draw, a playoff had to decide on qualifying for the final round. southwest

The Bonn SK and SK Zähringen were promoted to the Southwest relay in 1921 . While the Bonn team was able to hold out in the Bundesliga, Zähringen was relegated again, together with SV 03/25 Koblenz . The SK Heidelberg won all the competitions and qualified for the final round.

VfL Sindelfingen and Münchener SC were promoted to the South Season in 1836 . While the Sindelfingen team safely managed to stay in the league as third, the Munich team and the Stuttgart chess friends had to relegate in 1879 . For the relay victory there was a three-way battle between the German champions SC 1868 Bamberg , SC Anderssen Bavaria Munich and VfL Sindelfingen , which the Bambergers were able to win in the end. In the competition between Sindelfingen and Bamberg, both sides released the first board so that it was rated 0-0. The competition ended 3.5: 3.5 and was rated with 1: 1 team points; According to today's regulations, the competition would be rated 0-0 team points.

Finals

The final round took place in Bad Kissingen from June 2nd to 4th . Königsspringer Frankfurt won all competitions and was thus German champion ahead of the defending champion SC 1868 Bamberg, the SK Heidelberg and the Delmenhorster SK.
