Delmenhorst Chess Club

The Delmenhorster Schachklub von 1931 eV is a chess club . He is a member of the State Chess Federation Bremen. In the 1970s he had one of the leading chess teams in northern Germany.

Especially in the 1960s, under the chairmanship of civil engineering contractor Karl-Heinz Schaffarzyk (1923-2005), who also supported the club financially, the club developed more and more into a large club. In May 2002 the German Chess Federation Schaffarzyk expressed thanks and recognition in the form of an honorary certificate.

His greatest success so far was in 2000, when he reached 3rd place in the German Chess League behind the traditional clubs SG Porz and Solinger SG 1868 . The 1st Bundesliga team at that time consisted of the top players GM Ian Rogers , GM Simen Agdestein , GM Julian Hodgson , GM Stuart Conquest and local players like Egon Ditt .

In the 2010/11 season the club had 100 members. The first team played in the 1st Bundesliga. As of August 1, 2010, one grandmaster, six international champions (IM) and one international female master (WIM) were members of the association. After the sporting relegation this season, Delmenhorst withdrew the 1st team from the 2nd Bundesliga North and plays in the Oberliga Nord, Staffel West.
