L'Eroica (2008)

L'Eroica is a cycling tour for historic racing bikes that takes place every autumn in the Chianti area in Tuscany , Italy .

Due to the increasing interest in classic bikes with steel frames and attachments from bygone eras, the number of participants in the event, which was held for the first time in 1997, is constantly increasing. 2008 was the first year in which the "race" with 3000 participants was fully booked. There was a choice of four different route lengths (38 km, 75 km, 135 km and 205 km). In addition to the race, there is a large parts market and various festivities.

The topography and nature of the route make the tour a challenge, as around 50% of the route consists of the “white roads” (strade bianche) typical of Tuscany . These are gravel roads, some of which are difficult to drive on. In addition, the longest route has almost 3800 vertical meters to overcome.

Since 2009, “modern” bicycles (from around 1987) are no longer permitted.

In 2015 there were branches in the following additional countries: United States , United Kingdom , Spain and Japan . United StatesUnited States United KingdomUnited Kingdom SpainSpain JapanJapan

The Eroica Limburg was added in 2016, and in 2017 a first test run of the Eroica Germania took place in the hills of the Rheingau in Germany, which is to be continued in 2018.
