Egon Ditt (born May 29, 1931 in Bremen ; † July 4, 2005 there ) was a German chess player and administrative specialist.
Chess player

In 1946 he joined the Bremen-Ost chess club . He later played for the Delmenhorster Chess Club , which was represented in the German Chess League for many years .
He qualified for the finals of the 13th German Championship in 1974 in Menden.
Ditt held the title of FIDE Master .
He was also successful in correspondence chess and played for the German team at European and World Championships. In the Eberhard Wilhelm Cup in 1963, he won against the world class players Aivars Gipslis and Grigori Sanakojew . At the 9th Correspondence Chess Olympiad, he got six out of eight points on board six.
He was awarded the title of International Correspondence Chess Master.

After working for many years at club level and in the Weser-Ems chess association, Ditt was elected President of the German Chess Federation in 1989. In the initial phase of his term of office, he played a key role in the merger of the DSB with the GDR Chess Federation, which was carried out on September 29, 1990.
He also held various offices at the World Chess Federation FIDE , from 1990 to 1994 he was its vice-president.
Work and private life

Ditt completed an apprenticeship in public administration and, as Senate Councilor, was Head of the Science Department at the Senator for Education in Bremen and from 1992-3 also acting director of the Bremen State and University Library .
He was u. a. friend of the long-time mayor Hans Koschnick , who was also an avid chess player.
Since 1954 he was married to his wife Jutta, who was also a strong chess player: she won the Bremen women's championship five times and took part twice in the German women's championship.
