Alfred Schlya (born October 25, 1935 in Hettstedt ) is a German chess official.

From 1993 to 2001 he was President of the North Rhine-Westphalia Chess Federation and is now its Honorary President.

He is also honorary president of the Oberhausen Chess Club 1887 eV , which he joined in 1951. He organized the European team championship in chess in 1961 at OSV 1887 in Oberhausen. As a player, he became national class champion in 1973 with the OSV 1887. Alfred Schlya was largely responsible for making chess charitable.

In 2001 Alfred Schlya was elected President of the German Chess Federation .

He did not stand for re-election at the 2007 federal congress and was also elected honorary president. His successor in the office of DSB President was Robert K. von Weizsäcker .

In 1994 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . In 2014 he received the Oberhausen Ring of Honor and the silver badge of honor from the State Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia for 60 years of voluntary work in the Stadtsportbund Oberhausen .
