Heinz Hohlfeld
Heinz Hohlfeld (born December 31, 1923 in Kolovere-Kalju ; † August 16, 1989 in Hanover ) was a German chess player and official.
Chess player
Hohlfeld initially belonged to the Lüneburger SK, but switched to the Hannoversche SK in 1952 , to which he remained loyal until his death. He played in the first team of the Hanoverian SK until the beginning of the 1980s and was German team champion with the team in 1959 . For years, Hohlfeld was one of the strongest players in Lower Saxony and became Lower Saxony champions in 1957 and 1965.

After Hohlfeld was initially active at club level, he was chairman of the Lower Saxony Chess Association from 1958 to 1963 and from 1966 to 1972 . From 1971 to 1983, Hohlfeld was Vice President of the German Chess Federation , before he succeeded Alfred Kinzel as President of the German Chess Federation. In May 1989 he decided not to be re-elected for health reasons, and was succeeded by Egon Ditt . For his many years of voluntary work, Hohlfeld was made an honorary member of the Hanover Chess Club and the Lower Saxony Chess Association. In 1987 he was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor by the German Chess Federation. Shortly before his death in 1989 he was elected honorary president of the German Chess Federation.
