Ullrich Krause (born November 15, 1967 in Lübeck ) is a German chess player and has been President of the German Chess Federation since 2017 .

Life

Ullrich Krause attended the Johanneum zu Lübeck from 1978 to 1987 , where he passed his Abitur. From 1987 to 1989 he did his community service at the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in Lübeck. He then studied mathematics at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and graduated as a mathematician. Since 1997 he has been working as a software developer and tester in Lübeck.

In 1981 he became a member of the Lübeck chess club from 1873 .

  • 1987 2nd to 4th place at the international youth tournament in Hamburg.

In 1999 he fulfilled a standard for the title of International Master at the German Individual Championship in Altenkirchen, which Robert Huebner won ahead of Rustem Dautov . In total, he took part in German championships five times. His best rating was 2340 in July 1992. In 2006 he was awarded the title of FIDE Master .

In 2008 he took part in the German championship in Bad Wörishofen. In 2011 he met Herbert Bastian at the German Championship in Bonn, which Igor Khenkin won ahead of Jan Gustafsson . He was also a participant in the 2014 German Championship in Verden (Aller) .

Lübeck Association

Ullrich Krause has been a member of the Lübeck Chess Club from 1873 since 1981 and played in the second national chess league from 1992 to 2015 with short interruptions . He was involved as a youth spokesman (1985 to 1987), as the second youth warden (1987 to 1989) and as the first youth warden (1987 to 2001) in the Lübeck chess club.

Krause was chairman of the Lübeck chess club from 2001 to 2013. At this time the Lübeck chess club became German team champions (2001, 2002 and 2003).

From 2008 to 2018 he was President of the Schleswig-Holstein Chess Association , since 2018 he has been Vice President. However, he remained loyal to his Lübeck club and has been the second chairman since 2013. From 2017 to 2018 he was also the first youth warden in the Lübeck chess club.

He was elected President of the German Chess Federation in May 2017 to succeed Herbert Bastian.

He also worked as an organizer of various tournaments, such as the 87th German Individual Championship 2016 in Lübeck.

Honors

Krause has been an honorary member of the Lübeck Chess Club since January 2018. Maundy Thursday 2018 he received the golden badge of honor from the Schleswig-Holstein Chess Association. On the same day he no longer ran for the office of President of the Chess Federation. His successor was Rüdiger Schäfer from Norderstedt. Krause was elected Vice President.
