Richard Czaya

Richard Czaya (born February 23, 1905 in Beuthen , † October 25, 1978 in Lohr ) was a strong German chess player and the first post-war president of the German Chess Federation .

Chess player

Czaya took part in German championships three times from 1947 to 1949 and finished well in each case. In 1949 with the Barmer Chess Club and in 1959 with the Hanoverian SK , he won the German team championship .

Czaya founded the Working Group of German Chess Associations in 1947 and became its chairman.

After the Second World War, the German Chess Federation was re-established in 1950. Czaya became president. He gave up this post in 1951 for professional reasons. During his presidency, he moved a few important things:

  • In 1950 the German Chess Federation was accepted as an associated member of the German Sports Federation .
  • In 1950 the German Chess Federation in Copenhagen was re-accepted into FIDE .
  • German participation in the 1950 Chess Olympiad in Dubrovnik.
  • 1951 Organization of the European zone tournament in Bad Pyrmont.

For his services, Czaya was made an honorary member of the German Chess Federation.
