The Oberhausen Chess Club 1887 e. V. is a chess club with 91 members (as of June 2015).

The organization of the European Team Championship in 1961 and the hosting of the Women's Chess Olympiad in 1966 are the main events in its history.

For the 2015/16 season, the OSV is providing six teams (1st team: NRW League, 3rd league) and one youth team (1st team: youth district upper league Emscher-Lippe district). In 2001, the grandmaster Vlastimil Hort could be won over for the top board and as a trainer. Since the 2010/11 season, FM (since 2019 IM ) Marcel Becker has also played for OSV. For the 2012/13 season, FM Jürgen Kaufeld and FM Aleksej Litwak could also be won for the first team. In the season 14/15, the first OSV team was promoted to the NRW League, the third highest division. In addition, FM Heiko Kummerow could be won as reinforcement for 2015/16.
