The Hamburg chess society Barmbeck Uhlenhorst Eilbek from 1906 e. V., for short mostly Hamburg chess society BUE or HSG / BUE , was a Hamburg chess club .

history

The oldest predecessor of the HSG / BUE was founded on September 27, 1906 as the " Barmbeck Chess Club in Hamburg". After losing the club house due to the First World War , the club moved to the neighboring district of Uhlenhorst in 1918 and renamed itself "Barmbeck-Uhlenhorster Schachklub". In 1932 the club merged with the " Eilbeker Schachklub" founded in 1911 and was then called "Schachklub Barmbeck Uhlenhorst Eilbek" (SK BUE). The Hamburger Schachgesellschaft (HSG) was founded in 1946. In 1985 the HSG and the SK BUE merged to form HSG / BUE. In 2019 the club, which was last active with only one team in the district league, disbanded.

Sporting successes

The Hamburg Chess Society was one of the leading German chess clubs in the 1950s and has won several Hamburg club team champions. In 1950 the club became German team champions , in 1955 runners-up. At that time, BUE had up to 150 members, making it one of the associations with the largest number of members in Germany. From 1974 to 1980 the HSG played in the four-track Bundesliga , in 1979 they qualified for the finals of the German team championship. After the single-track Bundesliga was founded, the Hamburg Chess Society belonged to the second Bundesliga. In 1986 the HSG / BUE was able to move up to the first division, but had to be relegated immediately.

Correspondence chess

Since the 1980s there has been a joint correspondence chess team of the HSG / BUE with the SC Diagonale Harburg (today SV Diagonale-Harburg ), which as HSG-BUE Diagonale Harburg participated in tournaments of the Association of German Correspondence Chess Friends and qualified for the finals for the German championship . Therefore, the syndicate became a founding member of the 1st Bundesliga in correspondence chess in 1995 , whereby the qualification was still achieved by a pure team from SC Diagonale. However, the team rose in 1997 with 6:10 team points after one season as 7th of 9 teams. A few years later, the syndicate with the Diagonale dissolved. In the seasons 2007–2009 and 2009–2011 the HSG / BUE played again in the first federal correspondence chess league.
