Hans-Marcus Elwert

Hans-Marcus Elwert (born July 11, 1962 ) is a German grandmaster in correspondence chess .

Around 1982 Elwert, who was a member of the BUE Hamburg chess club , started correspondence chess. In 1988 he won a championship tournament, in 1990 he finished second. In 1996 he received the title of Grand Master .

In 2001 he won the so-called Millennium Tournament, which was organized by the Dutch correspondence chess association NBC. In this tournament of category XVIII he won against the Swede Ulf Andersson , who lost a long distance game for the first time.

2007 his Fernschach- was Elo 2725. Since about 2000, he led the top 10 in the world rankings. In 2005 he became vice world champion at the 18th correspondence chess world championship. Elwert also achieved a considerable playing strength in close chess and was temporarily active in the second Bundesliga.
