The 16th Chess Olympiad in 1964 was held from November 2nd to 25th, 1964 in Tel Aviv ( Israel ).

Overview

50 teams took part and determined the teams for the final groups A to D in seven preliminary groups. 294 players (including 31 Grand Masters and 40 International Masters) took part in the competition. Round tournaments were held both in the opening groups and in the final groups . The first two teams in each support group qualified for the final group A. Mexico, Venezuela, Australia and the Dominican Republic were in the field of a chess Olympiad for the first time.

The main referee was Alois Nagler from Switzerland . The thinking time was 40 moves in 150 minutes, then one hour for 16 moves each time. The placement (RG) was determined based on the board points (BP), team points (MP) and the direct comparison. The venue was the Sheraton Hotel in Tel Aviv, which was then demolished.
