Chess Olympiad 2020

The 2020 Chess Olympiad is a team tournament in chess that was to be held in Moscow from August 5th to 17th . It is the 44th  Chess Olympiad of the World Chess Federation FIDE and the fifth to be held in Russia.

Originally it was planned to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk . In November 2019, the Russian Chess Federation announced that the newly introduced Paralympics Chess Olympiad would take place in Khanty-Mansiysk from July 29 to August 4, 2020 and the Chess Olympiad would take place in Moscow. So far teams from the International Braille Chess Association , the International Chess Committee of the Deaf and the International Physically Disabled Chess Association have already competed in the Olympics, at the suggestion of Nigel Short there should be a Paralympic Chess Olympiad. After the Chess Olympiads in 1956 and 1994 , it is the third in Moscow. On March 24, 2020, FIDE announced that the Chess Olympiad would not take place until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
