The 3rd Chess Olympiad took place from July 13th to 27th, 1930 in Hamburg . It was organized by FIDE and consisted of a men's competition. The 1930 women's world chess championship took place in the same context .

Venue: Logenhaus on Moorweidenstrasse

Germany, which had taken over the organization of the Chess Olympiad, chose the city of Hamburg as the venue, where the Olympiad was linked to the centenary of the Hamburger SK . The venue was the box house of the Provincial Lodge of Lower Saxony on Moorweidenstrasse.

This time 18 teams took part in the Olympics, which played against each other in a round-robin tournament . Lithuania, Norway and Iceland made their debuts at this tournament.

The tournament favorite Poland won with Rubinstein , Tartakower , Przepiorka , Makarczyk and P. Frydman , ahead of the Hungarian team with Maróczy , Takács , Vajda , E. Steiner and Havasi .

The German team achieved third place in the line-up of Ahues , Sämisch , Carls , Richter and Wagner .
