Chess Olympiad 1931

Wenceslas Square in Prague 1984. In 1931 the Chess Olympiad took place here in a side street.

The 4th Chess Olympiad was held from July 11th to 26th, 1931 in Prague ( Czechoslovakia ) in the café of the U Nováků palace near Wenceslas Square . The 1931 World Chess Championship for women also took place in the same context .

Overview

19 teams took part to determine the Olympic champion in a round-robin tournament . 93 players took part in the competition. The team tournament was played with four teams, with a substitute player was allowed. Tournament director was Vladimír Mrázik from Czechoslovakia. Josef Louma from Czechoslovakia was the technical director. The reflection time was two hours for 40 trains. The placements were decided based on the board points (BP) and team points (MP).
