The 1931 World Chess Championship for women (name: women's tournament for the World Championship and for the Hon. Lady Hamilton-Russel Cup ) was a tournament for the title of world chess champion held in Prague from July 12th to 26th, 1931 at the same time as the Chess Olympiad .

The Czechoslovakian world champion Vera Menchik, who has been in office since 1927, defended her title in the double-round tournament with eight wins from eight games. With half the number of points, the poorly ill Austrian Paula Kalmar-Wolf took second place.

Vera Menchik's application to the organizing World Chess Federation was granted to allow more than one participant from each country to take part in the World Cup in the future. In 1933 the new law was used by France and England to send two participants each.
