World Women's Chess Championship 1962

For the women's chess world championship in 1962 , a candidates tournament with 17 participants was initially held. The tournament winner and the current world champion then contested the match for the world championship.

The candidates' tournament took place in Vrnjačka Banja in October and November 1961 .

World Championship

The match for the world championship took place in Moscow from September 18 to October 17, 1962 . The main referee was Nina Hrušková-Bělská from Czechoslovakia . In view of the clear superiority of the new world champion Nona Gaprindashvili, only eleven of the planned 16 games were required
