World Women's Chess Championship 1927
The Women's World Chess Championship 1927 was from 18 to 30 July 1927 in London , first as "Ladies Tournament" barred, but later recognized as a world championship chess tournament of the "most competent contenders to this title" on the occasion of the London Congress of the only three-year-old World Chess League . For the only time, players whose chess federations were not members of the World Chess Federation could take part.
The secretary of the British Chess Federation , Leonard A. Rees, organized an international team tournament for the World Chess Federation Congress in 1927, which is considered the first official Chess Olympiad . At the same time, a championship tournament called the premier and a women's tournament took place, which was later recognized as a world championship due to the high level of participants.
The Czech Vera Menchik , who lives in London , won the women's tournament without losing a game and thus became the first world chess champion. She defended the title confidently at the seven subsequent women's world chess championships , first at the one in 1930 , and held it until her death in 1944.
