1953 Women's World Chess Championship

At the 1953 World Chess Championship for women , defending champion Lyudmila Rudenko from the Soviet Union met a challenger. This was first determined in October and November 1952 in Moscow during the candidates' tournament. Her compatriot Jelisaveta Bykowa prevailed and later also won the World Cup.

World Cup competition

The competition for the world championship took place from August 15 to September 20, 1953 in Leningrad . The main referee was Fritz Andersson from Sweden . In the event of a tie, Rudenko should keep her title. Bykowa won 8: 6, with only two of the 14 games ending in a draw.
