Valentina Mikhailovna Borissenko ( Russian Валентина Михайловна Борисенко ; born Belowa; born January 28, 1920 in Tscherepowez ; † March 6, 1993 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Soviet / Russian chess player .

She won the Soviet Women's Chess Championship five times (1945, 1955, 1957, 1960 and 1961).

She won the Leningrad Women's Chess Championship seven times (1940, 1945, 1950, 1951, 1954, 1955 and 1956) and the RSFSR Women's Championship four times.

At the World Chess Championship for women in Moscow in 1949/50 , she shared 3rd place with Jelisaveta Bykowa . Then she took part in all candidate tournaments to determine the World Cup challenger until 1964, and in 1961 she finished second behind Nona Gaprindashvili .

In 1950 she became International Master of Women (WIM), in 1978 she was awarded the title of Grand Master of Women .

Correspondence chess

At the first women's correspondence chess championship, which Olga Rubzowa won, she finished eighth.

Her husband was the Russian correspondence chess player Georgi Borissenko , who also trained her to play chess.
